A trip to the Greenmarket last weekend–another important first for this kiddo (on what was predicted to be his actual due date, but in fact was day 13)–brought out a mix of emotions. All of my favorite fruits and vegetables were out (tiny tri-state strawberries, blueberries, white corn, stone fruits, and the sweetest of sweet Sungold tomatoes… for example) and it just felt like such a perfect summer day, being out together. At the same time I realized that I had missed many of these items’ arrival, having been away for a few weeks, and the passage of time was all too palpable.
It’s already so with Hudson: we look forward to him growing and smiling (and sleeping through the night), but I can already see how it can all go too fast!
We’ve been eating tomato, corn, and basil salads on repeat ever since–practice for savoring the moment.

P.S. More family photos today on baby mine!

I'm in love with the little man and I haven't even met him yet. I included you on an invite for Matt's movie, just because I wanted to let you know I miss you. But I understand if you can't come. Since I'll be there though, maybe I can visit with you that Sunday?
What a sweet precious baby. I just had my first a few months ago, and this whole time situation is strange indeed. It goes fast and slow at the same time somehow. (I guess it feels slower at night during those feedings every two hours in the early days!!)
I'm fortunate that I get to grow a lot of what you featured on my farm, and my kids (now 2, 1) are able to spend lots of time in the garden and orchard with me learning how to cultivate and prepare these efforts. Funny how a city kid and a couple of country kids can have different, yet shared, experiences over the same items. Makes it feel like we are all connected a bit.
That yawn!
(We're all over the greenmarket corn too—so sweet!)
Oh, I can't imagine how the moments are flying by. So sweet.
I've got both of your blogs in my RSS feed–so I must have missed it if you mentioned it somewhere already–but I'm hoping you'll share what brand of stroller that is. I'm currently shopping for a stylish, city-capable one. Thanks!
Nice to be back visiting your blog and seeing your lovely wee bubs, congratulations. Yes every new thing you do with a baby is like seeing things anew don't you think?
Look at that face! I mean, really…
He's just so darn cute!
ashley, i am sooo getting this on a new level…. i want to savor EVERY MOMENT of parker's newborn-ness but it seems nearly impossible to enjoy EVERY one. gah. such is life i suppose but in the meantime, i'm definitely spending lots of time cuddling the little man.
I just went there today for some heirloom tomatoes and fresh flowers!
