We spent a day in Los Angeles over the holidays, indulging in nostalgia and some child-free shopping (more on that later). We didn’t want lose any precious minute of our 4-hour getaway over water service at a restaurant so we went for the best drive-thru option I could think of: Mozza 2 Go. Along with our beloved Motorino in New York (and, oh, perhaps that pizza we shared in Naples many years ago), Mozza’s squash blossom and Burrata pizza is one of our favorites.

I will always remember, just after finding out that Aron matched at NYU (his first choice) for his Urology residency and that we were moving across the country, sitting at the bar and smelling melting Sotocenere and sipping sparkling wine at Mozza–and feeling relieved that we would be going somewhere with really, really good pizza.

When you get the squash blossom pizza to-go, they give you the burrata in a little bag. It’s slightly less elegant (especially when you try to squeeze any last drops of the cream into your mouth), but I think you actually get a bit more than usual.

Oh goodness, I really want a hot enough oven to make crust like this one day.

P.S. Here’s a look at our attempt to recreate the Squash Blossom pizza, a few years back.

That looks incredible! I didn’t get to Mozza when I was in LA…DH did the last time he visited his daughter in LA (sans moi). But…she now lives in NYC in the West Village…so great pizza abounds! And it’s easier to visit from Baltimore!

That looks so delicious! If you’ve never tried it before you should try grilling pizza. It’s the closest I’ve gotten at home to wood-fired oven pizza.

Mmmmmm good!!! Tasty! Been playing a little catch up here on Hither and Thither and just wanted to say that I have been loving that last few posts…the pics over the holidays were so sweet and the headboard from Indonesia looks incredible…most certainly jealous (I must say, we have a pretty awesome headboard ourselves but, um, it’s not from, you know, Indonesia!! ha ha)…hope you all had a wonderful Xmas and New Year’s and all the best in ’13…thinking of you all out here in Chicagoland.

  4. Wow, what a pizza! I love food memories like the one you described when you heard about Aron’s residency. I have a Lodge Logic cast iron pizza pan that makes an excellent pie. It’s sadly not a brick oven, but I’m really pleased with how the crust turns out. Happy to hear you had such a nice holiday!

Oh, Mozza…*sigh*. How I miss the restaurants of LA!! Moved to a town that’s considered a foodie town, but nothing has compared to those in LA. Love reading about one of my favorite pies, thanks :).
