Hot and fresh (without the neon sign)

by Aron on May 17, 2011

It was cold on the day Ashley and I went to try the new donuts at the Brindle room in the East Village. This may have contributed to my elation with the hot, freshly made donuts–but that not withstanding, I’d go as far as to say they were the best donuts I’ve had here in the city. More in the cake family than the fluffy category, they are full of wonderfully crunchy bits on the outside. And while the chocolate-peanut-butter flavor was almost more of a cupcake, the fresh caramel and the powdered sugar donuts were outstanding. They open at 8 on weekdays which, sadly, is well after I’m at work, and make donuts until the dough runs out.

(P.S. More great NY donuts)

Oh dear, now all I can think about is donuts! Those do look amazing, even if they weren't made at three in the morning by a cranky old man (which I always thought was a key ingredient to the deliciousness of the donuts.)

I don't know how often you make it to Brooklyn, but my husband's cousin is a pastry chef and has been making donuts at a place called Dough–very unique and innovative flavors like hibiscus, dulce de leche with almonds, lemon meringue…She also has an outstanding paleta stand at the Hester Street Fair–La Newyorkina. Might I add that she is the sweetest, loveliest person!

Great post. Those look ridiculously good. It is no accident that we live a block away from our favorite donut shop, here in Little Rock. It's called Shipley's and it's HEAVENLY. They make pillowy donuts that dissolve into liquid sugar in your mouth. Mmm.

They look beyond amazing! Makes me, for five minutes, want to make my own. Then I realize I can't bake.

I'll have to try these! Best doughnut in the city is a HUGE claim. Can they be better than Peter Pan in Greenpoint?!

I guess it's kinda good they open after you arrive at the office, right. I mean, if this place was on my route to work I'd be in serious trouble!

We had these a little while ago now and I have to agree that it's cruel even for me to see the pics again! Now I want a donut, too. Are they the best in the city? Aron thinks so… I could agree, but I also do love Donut Pub, Doughnut Plant, and the fresh donuts at Back Forty (when the seasonal topping is right).
Will have to check out Peter Pan and Dough!

Yum! There are so many great treats here in Italy but the donut is so classicly American. Those look truly delicious.

I still love Doughnut Plant best. Though recently at The Spotted Pig they made us an impeccable jam-filled doughnut.
