Whales

by Aron on April 19, 2011

Bryant Austin prints life-sized prints of these amazing creatures. That second photo is 20-feet wide! I would absolutely love to see this in person.
I vividly remember being in a small dive boat when I was living in Australia: two humpbacks came over to investigate us. The one slowly rolled to its side and we stared in each other’s eyes (or eye, in his case) before, with a flick of his tail, he dove. To be able to swim and photograph these creatures would be a dream come true.

I read this too and am spellbound. Any time you see a whale, it's so, so special, isn't it?

Alright, I'm redoing our renovation plans so that I can have a 20' uninterupted span of wall for the second photo. It would be cool broken up as a tryptic, too!

Did you see the new study that shows that whales not only sing, they learn each other's songs and sing them?

Awesome.

Amazing images. I wish the exhibit went on until we were at least in SF later in May. The NY Times article reminded me of the opening story in "Animal Minds" the only Radiolab episode that I liked. It really did hit me with force of nature: http://www.radiolab.org/2010/jan/11/

Aamazing! Have you heard the Animal Minds episode of Radiolab about the grateful whale? If not, you must. It made me cry a little bit. Link: http://www.radiolab.org/2010/jan/11/ The story is at 3:56
