There are tons of little touches that make Public, in NoLIta, stand out. Avroko’s design for the space is stunning. But what always gets me is the little table of baked goods that welcomes you to the dining room.
Isn’t it sort of the fantasy? You step into your light-filled kitchen and are greeted by jars of jams and marmelade, fresh-baked scones and strawberry-and-cream Lamingtons, and crisp copies of the Sunday Times…
Do you have any favorite weekend morning rituals?
Whatever they may be, I hope you enjoy them–have a lovely weekend.
(Our nephew is turning five on Saturday! Happy Birthday, Patrick! And, P.S., Where has the time gone?)

I've never been for Sunday brunch but sounds like heaven! Added to the list! xo
I love Public and am jealous they're a weekend ritual for you! I've only ever been for dinner. Our Sunday mornings are lovely nonetheless. A trip to our local farmers market for produce for the week and amazing Blue Bottle coffee. Happy weekend!
Public is awesome. Big props to Kate M. who got us a reservation there once for a celebratory dinner. We haven't formed a weekend ritual yet because we have too many places to explore still. But I'm sure you'd appreciate where is top of our list so far
Oops!
Sorry if that was confusing: the fantasy ritual is stepping into the light-filled kitchen and being greeted by jams and scones and crisp copies of the Sunday Times. Public's little table is just a reminder of the fantasy.
I will say it was in heavy rotation for a while. Then Frankies took over. Then Jo's… Now we're back to going to a variety of brunch spots (and watching the CBS Morning show when we're home and up for it).
I'd love to hear the list, Ed. Love Farmer's markets, Hannah.
Ooo weekend morning rituals? Well, it has to be a strong black coffee and losing myself in the weekend papers, esp. the weekend newspaper mags. Sunday Times Style = the best! Have a lovely weekend you guys!
Yum, that looks so good. I've always wanted to go to Public. On weekends, we tend to go to the Brooklyn Flea and the Fort Greene farmers market.
Brunch is always part of the weekend plans. There are 2 or 3 places we alternate between. Happy weekend.
Oh my goodness! It's like everyday you give me another reason to move to NY! Thank you thank you thank you!

I love enjoying a cup of tea, homemade yogurt with raspberries and honey!! Oh and I love love going for a run!!
Patrick says thank you!
Our weekend mornings are walking down to the bakery, maybe visiting the Saturday farmers' market in downtown Ludwigsburg, and planning our weekend.
Someday I'm going to sleep in again. Dreaming about it, actually. I'm thinking about two more years then we might have a chance at it.
how beautiful is that?!! i wish i could go there on a weekly (or daily) basis. have a lovely weekend! xox
My favorite weekend morning ritual is going to yoga, followed by a light breakfast with creamed tea – lovely! Thank you for reminding me how much I love those mornings!
A great cup of coffee, the LA Times Sunday crossword puzzle, and the morning sun on our patio with my husband.
I wish running or yoga were rituals–awesome! And it's been too long since my last crossword. Doing one on a patio would be so wonderful. Such nice morning ideas. Good luck with sleeping in, Laura! One day…
We have the Boston Globe delivered. My boyfriend runs out to get it (usually barefoot) and we have a relaxing start to Sunday with the paper, coffee, and the news. I love its arrival in the summer because I will brave the 30 minute line for pasties from our local bakery and we enjoy them with the paper in our Adirondack chairs.
Love that they have lamingtons! *drools* Great post – love your blog!!
Lamingtons in New York? Wow. My brunch yesterday was crepes with banana and Canadian maple syrup drizzled all over. Love brunch! Especially on Sundays.
I didn't realize they were an Australian tradition! I've been looking into the speculation surrounding Lord Lamington and their Queensland origins. Very interesting. I'm not sure if the Public variety are traditional, but they sure are tasty! (P.S. Thank you, Jessie!)
Lamingtons are the bomb!! I love the look of this place.

This space looks splendid.
Yes, very much Australian
I've been going on a little search for a good lamington in America! Will definitely have to try this out when we visit New York. And as a proud Queenslander, I'd be happy to back-up the theory on Lord Lamington's and our state's behalf for these delicious delights
Let us know what you find!
