Travel cravings

by Ashley on February 10, 2010

Aron and I have been trying to figure out ways that we might visit India this year. All that we know, after lots of guidebook-browsing, is that reading about India makes us crave Indian food. So far, our favorite in the city are Saravanaa Bhavan (for South Indian Thalis) and Banjara (for Northern/Rhajasthani dishes).

Did you have to do that to me just as I am about to have lunch! Luckily enough I brought some left over curry with em. Phew. I love Indian food – is that a surprise coming from a Brit who went to Uni in Burmin'ham, I think NOT! – and so badly want to visit India too. I have a great Indian cook book by Manju Malhi "Indian With Passion". I'm also very jealous of the neighbourhood you and Alli work in. See you later!

My cousins live in McLeod Ganj in Upper Dharamshala where the Dalai Lama lives and say it's fantastic. Are you planning on going in the next year? If so, I can put you in touch with them. They teach refugee children, and are very integrated into the culture and lifestyle there, so they should be able to show you around.

Sorry, Ed! I understand–it's a strong urge, the urge for curry.

J.M–that's so nice of you! We're thinking of flying into Mumbai and traveling in Rajasthan, but what a kind offer! We actually have a friend who is getting married in Chennai in July, but sadly that month is out…

Have you visited your cousins there?

No, I haven't yet. It's so expensive to fly there with two children from Louisiana, and I wouldn't want them to miss the experience, so it is definitely going to take some planning. My best friend lives in Paris, so I think we might go there first, and fly from there since it's cheaper. But we're going to Paris in the spring, and that's not an absolutely great time to visit northern India, I've heard!
