Flatiron Gallery

by Ashley on February 9, 2010

When we went to Restoration Hardware last week to pick out our new drawer pulls, we at first thought the store might be closed: the regular retail store around the corner from the Flatiron has been painted black, its windows tinted, as part of a conversion into a new “Gallery” concept.
The new iteration of the store is filled with Restoration Hardware’s Artisan Collection–otherwise only available online–and it’s really beautiful. To be honest, it makes one who’s interested in that vintage/industrial salvaged wood-and-leather aesthetic feel their tastes may be a bit too cliché or commercial (the way, I imagine, a Williamsburg hipster feels when they walk into an Urban Outfitters).

Still, I’d be pretty happy to take home a canvas reproduction of a New York subway roll or a vegetable-tanned leather buckle chair.
The massive, neoclassical-style Entablature mirror–one of the first things that caught my eye when we walked into the store, er, gallery–is actually from Timothy Oulton, the same designer whose things we liked so much at ABC Home Store last weekend.

We left, not surprisingly, without couple-thousand-dollar cigar-leather steamer trunk, but we did order some beautiful drawer pulls for the kitchen–they just arrived!

Thanks for this – I have never seen that colletion – I usually go to RH to find switchplates and drawer pulls, but I am going to look around now. That chair is exactly what I have been looking for.

And I literally laughed out loud at your hipster analogy!
