Mother’s Day Weekend

Having Mother’s Day and our anniversary fall on the same day meant that the whole weekend felt celebratory. I thought I might share some favorite photos…

On Saturday, after breakfast with our parents (mine were visiting from Southern California) and some time at the Davis Farmer’s Market, Hudson helped me pick out shoes and we were off to Sonoma.

Aron’s parents drove us up to Buena Vista Winery (a longtime favorite), for some tasting and to spend some time enjoying the grounds, before we headed over to Sonoma’s square—where you’ll find a beautiful park and the last California Mission. There we had a delicious dinner outside at The Girl and the Fig.

Mother’s day began with sleeping in (til 8am, woohoo!), blueberry pancakes, and a bike ride through the UC Davis arboretum to visit the Ruth Storer Valley Wise Garden. The Whole Earth festival was happening on campus, so we grabbed a bite on the quad to the sound of folk music before heading home. Hudson napped in the car while we drove back to Sonoma, this time for another pick-up party at Scribe Winery.

The views of the vineyards that spread out beyond us was fairly mesmerizing, but it didn’t keep me from getting a little starstruck when I spotted Connie Britton (aka Tami Taylor, aka Rayna James) sitting on the next blanket over. Seriously a big fan. And yes, she’s even more beautiful in person. See her back there?

As before, everyone looked beautiful, the setting was stunning, and we loved the food (this time, Tartine was serving goat cheese and freshly mashed peas with onion jam on nutty bread). Such a nice afternoon!

I had nothing to do with the pants-model pose, by the way.

As the afternoon went on, we went from celebrating Mother’s Day to our sixth wedding anniversary. (Although we decided six is sort of a crap number. It’s nothing special like five and it doesn’t sound like much, right? But we’ll still toast to it!)

That night, back in Davis, we went out for an anniversary dinner—just the two of us.

A wonderful weekend, thanks to my favorite fellas.

P.S. A 48-hour visit to Napa, nearby Oakville Grocery, and our last Mother’s Day/anniversary weekend.
