On the way to dinner

by Ashley on March 7, 2013

Aron and I finally made it to that Truffle Tasting Dinner–just before the season ended–and it was incredible. But equally incredible was the field of Almond trees we passed as we drove toward Napa. White blooms filled the skyline until the valley looked almost dusted in snow.

It was enchanting. And if you follow me on Instagram, you already know that we went back for more flower-spotting over the weekend. There are blossoming trees all around! So we took Hudson into the Capay Valley on Saturday, and took an embarrassing number of photos. I’ll do my best to contain myself when I share some next week.

P.S. A Walnut grove. And a Truffle dish to make at home.

Thanks, Lucie! As it turns out, most of the world’s almonds come from California. I’m not sure I’ve seen them elsewhere either!

The images of the almond trees are gorgeous. I love when trees bloom like that right before Spring.
Never knew there was a truffle festival in Napa – I live in SF so I def have to check that out next year(and maybe train my dog to hunt for truffles in the meantime. )
Thanks for the post.

When we first moved to California, I made my husband stop every. single. time we passed farms with trees like this to take photos, but I don’t think I have a single one with them in blossom. These are beautiful.

Thank you! This one is from Forever 21 of all places, but I’m pretty boring… JCrew, Madewell, Zara… the usual suspects. But thank you so much!

Wow, I didn’t know that almond trees bloomed so beautifully! As part of my desire to learn more about where some foods come from, I’m keen to visit more places like this. I will have to see if we have almond farms here in Australia. I adore your smile in the first photo.

You’ll have to read today’s post. I just learned that CA produces 80% of the world’s almonds. Apparently they’re also grown in Australia, Spain, Chile and Mediterranean countries
