The best gifts for a traveler

by Ashley on December 11, 2012

Joanna and Condé Nast Traveler recently asked me about my favorite travel gifts . You can see a couple of my recommendations (and those of many others) here.

What would you add to the list? I definitely second the cashmere socks!

In fact, I’d put together a complete sleep-kit for a loved-one’s carry-on–something utilitarian but also a little luxurious. And what’s more luxurious than getting good rest on a red-eye? Toss an eye mask (the kind that lets you blink during REM sleep), a double-inflating neck pillow (for wedging to the side or back of your neck), a pair of socks (cashmere if they’re lucky, or some classic Wigwams), and a pair of earplugs into a Baggu zipper pouch; stash it under the tree and they’ll be eternally grateful.

And, so I never have to go too long without hearing his voice, extra battery life for Aron’s phone. These charge up on your computer and remain on standby (rather than bulking up something he always keeps in his pocket).

Can you share the info on the camo handbag that the camera bag is inside of? Thanks!

I wish i could! It looks great, right? That photo is actually from the Ona website and I’m afraid they don’t say where the sample bag is from. The label looks a little familiar, but I cant’ make out the name. Maybe someone else might recognize it?

Love that camera bag! I always throw my camera in my purse because of lack of carry ons allowed. Great idea!

I spy Midnight’s Children! I just finished reading that for a class this semester and loved it. How did Aron like it? And reading it in India…fascinating.

Great list!

I’d add my favorite scarf to the list… It’s from Marine Layer in SF (Marina and Hayes Valley) and made with a super soft t-shirt material. It’s also long enough and warm enough to truly double as a blanket for a cold flight! If you don’t already know the store, you should check it out. I bet you’d enjoy it.
