We got to the Alameda Antiques Faire a little later than is ideal. Somehow it takes us at least an hour to get out of the house, no matter how much strategizing we do the night before. Add to that the reluctance to wake a sleeping toddler early and the hour drive to Alameda from Davis and–shazam!–it’s suddenly 9am. Suffice to say, we probably missed out on some of the best scores to be had on Sunday.
Still, we had a really nice time looking around–especially for rugs–and came home with a beautiful 60″ George-Nelson-bench reproduction. And some very nice readers stopped to say hello and welcome us to the west coast! How nice is that?!
Here were some of my favorite sights…

Of course the stunning views of San Francisco, across the bay, were one of the best parts of the morning. Somehow we’ve been really lucky lately when it comes to flea markets in amazing locations (like this one and this one).

P.S. We brought along detailed measurements of our home just in case. I love this “prepare for serendipity”-kit Victoria assembles for flea market hunts.

Looks like a wonderful market! There are a couple of things photographed here that I could go nuts for. Glad to see you’re all settling into your new life.
Sal x
Thanks, Sal! Making progress…
Visually stunning. I love love love a good market. There is nothing better really, and the market here in Tennessee tend to be quite awful.
wow, great stuff!!!
p.s. I know Aron is really tall but that third photo makes him look like a giant!
Haha! You should have seen him in Bali!
veggie burger $9! looks like you haven’t escaped nyc food prices. ha!
hope you find a rug soon.
So true! Though luckily Davis is much less expensive than the Bay Area!
awesome shots !
what cameras and lens do you used to take ?
Thanks! These are actually all from my iPhone–via Instagram. Rather, I was using Aron’s iPhone which is the newest one, so it’s camera is better than mine.
I love Alameda! Used to go to that beach all the time as a kid. So glad you guys are here in Northern California to put us back on the map!
flea markets are so cool
great photos & hudson is getting so big!
Wow, that first shot is amazing. How does it compare to the Brooklyn Flea though? AKA which one would you rather go to?
Hmmm… that’s tough! My favorite flea of all time is actually the Rose Bowl flea in Pasadena, but this one was awfully good. This one is way more extensive than the Brooklyn flea and has a lot more furniture, etc. The Brooklyn flea had more local designers with new wares to throw into the mix–and more interesting food. Both are great, but if you’re looking for quantity, this was much bigger.
That “Christmas stocking” in the eighth picture would be an appropriate purchase for your son, Hudson. I’m pretty sure it’s made from a Canadian Hudson Bay blanket.
Spot on! Yes–we got it for him!! I love the Hudson Bay blankets and am so glad that his “mascot” is so lovely!
i’ve heard such fabulous things about the alameda flea market and your stunning pictures make it sound like it’s definitely worth checking out. those rugs are gorgeous and remind me of buying our rugs in the back rooms of morocco.
as an aside, do you like hudson’s shoes he’s wearing in these pictures? and would you recommend them for an early walker?
I would love to actually go shopping in Morocco!
And I can definitely recommend those shoes. These are Bobux and Hudson is on his third or fourth pair. His first shoes were the soft Bobux with elephants!
I was there too ! I live in Oakland and try to go every month just to enjoy the great location and view. It’s so nice even if you don’t find exactly what you’re looking for!
