Finding cool breezes

by Aron on June 2, 2011

Ashley and I flee to the west side of Manhattan–to the Hudson River parkway–when the heat sets in. The cooling breezes from the water and the light from sunset make it a pretty unbeatable destination. Of course, over the course of this week of extreme heat, we have spent many evening strolling over there; and we realized just how much we’d missed those views during the winter (when those same breezes keep us away). On Sunday night, we walked to the end of the Christopher Street pier to watch the dancers practicing the Tango before heading into the West Village for dinner at a favorite spot, Barbuto.

If this weather keeps up, Ashley, who is usually is most at home in a desert environment, will be asking if we can walk out there nearly every night! The extra little person in her belly is clearly adding his own heat to her temperature.

oh how fun, and you are right, the sunset views are beautiful. We went to Texas this weekend and the temperatures were a whooping 111F, even at 8pm it was still in the 100s so I can understand about enjoying those cold breezes.

What a beautiful little spot! I can almost feel the breeze and hear the music…Wish I could have seen the tango dancers too! It would have been worth it just for that for me!! :-)

last year my boyfriend and i decided to visit nyc, mid-october. we didn't plan on having as much good weather as we had (summer-like temperatures!), so while walking around one day, we decided we needed to cool off, and headed to exactly the same spot you guys did! it was so beautiful, so warm, and so perfect, we both still talk about just lying on the grass in the sunshine as the highlight of our entire visit. i'm glad we're not alone in realizing how special it is to have space to do that in a large city! :)

I am super excited about moving to New York this month, but one thing I'm not excited about coming back to is East Coast summers. I have the feeling I'll be spending many evenings by the East River.

Loved this! These photos are stunning, and up there with some of my favorites you have taken. We often walk to the waterfront as well here in Williambsurg to cool off in East River State park. Too bad you're on the west side, otherwise, we could wave!

Pictures of people dancing on a dock at twilight is one of my most favorite things. Thank you!

When Tobes and I arrived in NYC last September the first thing we did was go walk the CS pier for some fresh breezes after the long haul flight!

nice, we've never been over that way during the summer months. Going to add this to the list of after work spots.
