!Feliz Cinco De Mayo!

by Ashley on May 5, 2011

Aron and I recently checked out the uber-stylish Tacombi @ Fonda Nolita for breakfast (the review will be up on Serious Eats this Monday). The kitchen is in a converted VW “Combi” that used to serve up fare beachside in Playa del Carmen. No doubt the cerveza will be flowing there tonight.

While I won’t be joining in for any Michelada-sipping this year, I think Cinco de Mayo might call for some baja-style fish tacos and guacamole. Any fun Cinco de Mayo-inspired plans?

Chips and guacamole, fish tacos, and lime margaritas at Pequena in Fort Green last night to beat the Cinco de Mayo rush. Fish Tacos were the best I've had outside of those lakeside at Tahoe. Guacamole was average – not spicy enough for me.

This place looks like so much fun!!

Can you believe I totally forgot about cinco de mayo? Right now my crockpot is cooking up a curry lentil stew…not exactly south of the border.

Cinco de mayo failure.

Oh my goodness! this looks so cute and sounds yummy!!! I can't wait to go try it!!!

***side note: it's not actually independence day in Mexico today! it's just a holiday to remember that we won the battle of puebla against the french. Independence day is Sept. 16th

Thanks for the catch, Mrs. B!
I'm a sucker for strung lights alone, but the decor here is all awesome.

Seriously great photos! We're a little low-key around here: A little Cinco de Mayo celebration at my kids' school today (I get to play DJ…should be interesting!), and fish tacos, margaritas and bottled Mexican coca cola for dinner. :)

That's awesome! What are you going to spin? :)

I have to get some Mexican bottled cola! The cane sugar version is the best!

looks super fun! Wish we had more time down there to explore more of the Yucatan! Speaking of fish tacos. We have been searching high and low for the "best" baha style fish tacos here in NYC. So far its been at Rockaway Taco and this guy who sells at Brooklyn Flea. Do you know anywhere else that is amazing?

Have been meaning to get to Rockaway taco–must try this summer!

Best (baja-style) for me so far: Pinche Taqueria at 227 Mott Street. I also really liked the taco at Mercadito in Alphabet city (but it may have been the shrimp taco that was my favorite there).

Ashley, I'm cheating with the music…not strictly Mexican, but hopefully no one will be the wiser! So they'll party with some Bomba Estereo, Tito Puente and some others who aren't from Mexico. ;)

I'll be enjoying a homemade Mexican feast in my apt! I can't resist an excuse to eat delicious Mexican food, but I can resist the crowds tonight! I've been wanting to try this place for a while now — your photos are even more enticing than those I originally saw on nymag.com!! Glad to know it has your stamp of approval.

I had the perfect Cinco de Mayo meal today – made by the fourth grade at my daughter's school! (haha!) Actually, their enthusiasm was contagious and the food was pretty tasty too.

The pictures you posted look Divine!

You always discover fun places to eat. look at the decor I love it!

I made chile con queso from scratch. it was not as spicy as I had hoped, so I followed with salsa and chips!

I also wanted to make flan (hubby loves it) but I still don't have a blender in our new home..
