Wanderlust: Cappadocia

by Ashley on January 6, 2011

Aron and I have been talking about going to Turkey forever. Why wouldn’t we? Transcontinental Eurasia…  Rich history… Hammams… Glorious beaches… Markets and mosques… Lunar-like Cappadocia…
And while we don’t know that we’ll get to visit anytime soon, I’ve been following along as Julia and Yurly traipse about in our stead. Their most recent photos (here and here) from their visit to the conic caves and fairy chimneys of Cappadocia are incredible: it’s such surreal scenery.

You need to go!!
I have been to Turkey in April for two weeks, it is super nice! And yes, Cappadocia is like a fairytale come true. Beyond beautiful! Best turkish food ever in Goereme, Cappadocia and the cave hotels are amazing!

Ooooh! So beautiful. My brother for his birthday received a cookbook called "Turquoise" about a couple who wanders around Turkey and they have a section on Cappadocia (as well as a recipe for meringue fairy chimneys). Since then I've wanted to go so much…

I went with my baby and sister-in law- it was fantastic. We stayed in a cave and loved every second of it. Everyone was welcoming and lovely.

I feel like every time we've decided to go, we end up having too short a time. And we would have considered it for a break we have in February, but I'm dying for some hot weather–I'd like to go during warmer months and mix Istanbul and the interior with some time on the coast. But believe me: we will make it there before too long!

You shouldn't promote blogs that just rip off other people's blogs even if they do take good pictures.

So fantastic! As a fellow New Yorker, I love the posts on NYC, but it's always good to move away from being too ethnocentric :)

Turkey is an amazing country, and Cappadocia is out of this world (literrally!) Felt like we stepped into a different planet when we were there. Definitely go if you can!
