When last week’s heat wave was testing my ability to perform simple activities of daily living, I turned to ice coffee to get me through. The people down at 88 Orchard have implemented a simple, brilliant idea: they use coffee cubes rather than ice cubes–which makes the drink last without becoming watered down.
Coffee cubes and cold brew
Ashley has started cold brewing coffee for us; she uses a 1/2 cup of grounds and mixes them with 2 cups of cold water in our french press, and lets it all steep overnight in the fridge. In the morning, it’s cold and oh-so-good. The next step is coffee cubes and a to-go cup. When the next heat wave comes around, we’ll be ready.

That's brilliant! Now that I think of it, I would love to try something like chocolate ice cubes and let those melt into my iced coffee:)
Such a great idea, Christine! It opens up a whole ice cube world: mint or basil cubes in lemonade, for example…
I gave up Iced coffee a year ago and am now a full tea girl! But I'd love to try maybe some mint ice cubes in my tea! That would work!
xo tash
That is a a genius idea! Mmmm, now I'm craving coffee. My morning tea may not cut it this a.m.
Looks yummi, I am a total iced-coffee-addict
I've never thought to use our french press to make cold brewed coffee! Great idea for the summer.
brilliant!
it's so hard to do it right yourself, get you guyssss
Not a huge coffee fan, but chocolate or tea cubes sound great!
such a good idea!!
man. my old hood and fav. coffee shop. cold brew is easy and so delish!
yum. We make iced coffee in my shop with frozen coffee shot, cappuccino flavpur ice cream and milk, blended up, lovely and cool!
That sounds so delicious, Claire! I wish your shop were closer!
They should contribute to Real Simple magazine, because let's face it, this idea is BRILLIANT! Thanks for sharing it!
What ideas – the cubes and the cold brew method. The mornings are usually cold and foggy here so I like my coffee hot. But we do have the occasional heat wave. I'll have to remember this in September.
oooh. can any old jo make these cubes for their cup o' joe? Or is it trickier than that? I always end up slurping ice coffee down in 1.4 minutes so it doesn't get watery. I am loving this revelation! x Emily
Mmmm. I could drink this all day.
I'm making those first thing tomorrow. Such a simple idea and one that I would not have thought of!
my grandmother used to do this, and so do i. it is the best.

Brilliant. Simply Brilliant.
I don't even like coffee, and this is lookin mighty tasty.
My fiance does the exact same thing! I will have to tell him about the cubes. Brilliant.
Though I do not know what is a french press, but the photo of the coffee is making me want a cup now! I love coffee! The last time I went to Hong Kong, I had their famous milk tea in a cha chann teng. They served the cup in a bowl of ice instead of placing ice cubes in them.
perfection. even though it's so simple, i have not been able to master the cold brew. must try coffee cubes!
Hey! Cold-brew is such a great idea. You can just make it before you go to bed, and then in the morning you have fresh ice-coffee! mmmmmmm
