Good seats

by Ashley on July 5, 2010

Success! We had a great view of the fireworks this year, from the new park just north of Chelsea Piers.
I’m not sure, however, what was more exciting: seeing the sky over the Hudson lit up Sunday night or playing the piano for Val Kilmer on Saturday. You’ll have to take my word for it, but that is Iceman* sitting on the bench in front of me!
Sing for Hope placed 60 pianos in park spaces around the city–there for the past two weeks for the public to play–and will donate each to schools and hospitals after this weekend. I’m going to miss them; it’s been wonderful hearing people play while out strolling on these warm nights.

(*Check out this hilarious post to see a close-up.)

that fireworks shot is stunning & what a pretty red piano!

when we were in washington square park (before the 60 pianos) there was one guy playing coldplay and other tunes right near the arch. it was amazing. we'll probably do a post about it soon but my video is pretty awful.

your weekend sounds like perfection!!!! Would love to have seen you play, oh and ICEMAN!!! (Except isn't he getting chubby for a movie?! Oh tabloids I don't know!)

Great capture of those fantastic fireworks! I can imagine it would have been a bit distracting to try and play while "Iceman" was sitting just feet from you (although perhaps would have been far more distracting if he still looked like he did 20 years ago. Yummy.)

You two have the most adorable adventures! Playing the piano for Val Kilmer? Crazy! If only you played "Danger Zone" :)

I know one is supposed to act cool about celebrity sightings, but 80s celebs hold a different level of appeal. If only I could have played Danger Zone–that would have been hilarious! I love that idea, Nicole.

Glad you guys got a prime view of the fireworks! We were thinking about you on Sunday and hoping you got to see them unobstructed.

And, Ashley, what tune WERE you playing for Val Kilmer?
