I flew in on the red-eye from Oakland this morning; we had a great time out west (and I’ll share some photos when Aron returns from San Francisco with our camera, later this week).
Coming straight from the plane to the office was a little rough, but I’ve finally got a strategy when it comes to sleeping on airplanes, and I slept through most of the six-hour flight. I’ve become one of those people who inflate a neck pillow, and then pull out my socks, ear plugs, and an ambien. And I’ve become completely dependent on this sleep mask I found that allows blinking during REM sleep. We gave masks and pillows out to friends who participated in our wedding in hopes that they would use the masks when flying to visit us in New York (cough, cough) and I just replaced mine recently after panicking that I couldn’t find it in time for our trip to India. A little travel tip for long flights: bring along this Sleep Mask and a pair of ear plugs.
(*This post is in no way just an excuse to share this photo of cute said friends.)

my air pillow always deflates… it's not very fun.
that is absolutely the cure for getting shut eye on a flight…ambien
I'm a fan of the foamy neck pillow- you know, the one filled with the little foam balls? That and a big scarf that can double as a blanket are my plane tricks. Next time I fly (it doesn't happen that much now that I live on the same coast as my loved ones), I'm totally getting that neck pillow.
I can sleep pretty much anywhere, anytime… but those eye masks sound brilliant. A Flight 001 actually opened just in my neighbourhood, so I'll be checking it out for sure!
Are you well rested today? I can't believe you came in yesterday! You're a trooper.
It never even occured to me that you'd need such an eye mask to get a good snooze on a plane, but of course! That makes total sense. I wish I could high five the person who came up with that idea, but I'll just buy the mask instead. Thank you for the tip!!!
(found your website through Marvelous Kiddo, and I love it already!)
Oh I love those eye masks! My mom got me one in Oakland of all places. I'll have to give the neck pillow a try. I've been too self-conscious to use one but I think I'm old enough now not to care so much about the look of the thing.
man, i have such a hard time sleeping on the plane. i got a neck pillow and have my own little airplane blanket…it's just sooo uncomfortable. i'm DREADING my flight to Ukraine…ehhh
Ambien is the only way to go. My daughter got on a flight in Phoenix and was asleep as the plane took off. When it landed in Dublin, Ireland – she finally woke up. The guy next to her said "geez, get enough sleep lady?". I don't think she needs that eye mask but I'm going to check it out for myself.
Hi Ashley!
The eye mask looks great! It also looks a little bit like a strapless bra
Åsa–that's hilarious! (You're going to make Laura more self-conscious!) Abbie–the scarf, yes–I do always get cold.
I'm so jealous, blue penguin! Aron is the same. You'll love Flight001.
Jeanette and Tanya are right about Ambien, too: it doesn't put me to sleep, but it will keep me from waking up too easily. (C'est la Vie: good luck!)
Thank you, Georgia!!
HH–I was okay that day, but I overslept the next! Oops!
Åsa–How was your trip to NY? did you make it out here?
