{Los Angeles, circa 2005}
When we were in California, we spent some time in a rental car and it reminded me: There is one other thing besides the settee–of the things we sold before packing up and moving across the country–that I miss. My car. I absolutely love that we don’t need one here and count my lucky stars that we both walk to work (and nearly everywhere else) every day, but both Aron and I occasionally wax poetic about the good ol’ days of car ownership. Yep, crazy, I know. I just learned that my beloved little Jetta was totaled by its most recent owner–who is, most importantly, just fine. Oh, little car with those wonderful seat-warmers: it’s like I’ve lost you all over again.

I'm sorry for your loss. Good cars become good friends. It is circling the Autobahn in the sky…
oh how sad! When I moved cross country right after college I was getting ready to have my truck shipped, since we couldn't drive two cars. I came out of the house 3 days before we left to find it no longer parked in the space I left it. I searched and searched (thinking i couldn't remember where I parked), finally calling the police – they said my car was park erratically and towed. Hrrrmmph! I was always proud of my parallel parking skills, so unless I was drunk and didn't know it – something wasn't right. After trapeasing all over town to the tow yard, I arrive to pay to get my truck out. Low an behold a drunk driver plowed into it and totaled it – pushing it out into traffic. The bed of my baby was smooshed all the way up into the cab. Sad way to see the car I got when I turned 16 so badly hurt! But hey I saved the money from shipping it, and insurance took care of my loss.
Sorry for the book, needless to say I know how you feel when you miss your car!
That's insane, Taylor! How terrible. Thank goodness you weren't in it!
Danke schön, Frenchlogic…
Oh sad. Poor Jetta.
Bye Jetta
Aww…I miss my lil' totaled Camry too.
Oh yes. I'm a fresh, new VW [golf] driver and I think I'd sob if I had found out my car had been totaled. I totally understand those crazy VW diehards now!
I've only had a few cars in my life, but I'm sad every time I let one go. I think I'd feel sad if I found out my teal Saturn from back in the day was crushed.
thanks for sharing this! I really enjoyed the tour & your photos are lovely too.
