Those who know me—or have seen our apartment—may have gathered that I’m not usually one to choose bright colorful patterns, instead preferring solid neutrals. And with such a small space, we’ve chosen primarily whites and creams and wood tones. It seems to make our apartment feel larger. (That and we really love all things woodsy.)
This doesn’t mean that I can’t appreciate others’ skills at bringing bright colors and patterns into their homes. In fact, I’m a bit in awe of anyone who can layer multiple patterns successfully! At the moment, I’m particularly drawn to these rooms, featured in this month’s Vogue; they belong to a textile designer and are to be found in a Brooklyn Heights Townhouse.
I’d like to think that if I had a townhouse with sky-high ceilings and huge windows to let in loads of light, I might try this out in at least one of the rooms.
Maybe…
What do you think?

So beautiful, but seems hard to live in. The kids help make it look younger, but otherwise could be stuffy, right? I'd stick with the more rustic look you like…

I also prefer elegant simplicity, neutral colors, with hopes of spicing it up with removable or change-able accessories. These rooms pictured are all bit too much for me. Maybe could take one or two segments of them.
These rooms are too busy. They are so cluttered that the beautiful character of an individual piece is lost. CMB
Wow! You guys, no offense, are crazy. Clutter!? This palette is amazing. The colors in the mural are so vivid and, when I first saw this in Vogue (only the most fashionable magazine out there), I was so inspired. Sublime.I see why you appreciate it, h&t. –PT
P.S. I saw these on Abbey Goes Design Hunting and some other design/inspiration blogs this week.
Ha, ha. It's cool–they're not for everyone. But I still love the creative layering; that first one would be a lovely den or home office. It's my favorite of the photos in the spread on the family. That sofa is so incredible beside that rug…
Glad to hear what everyone thinks!

PT: You're right; I also saw this here: http://jordanferney.blogspot.com/2010/01/charles-and-olya-thompson-in-vogue.html. You'll find lots of fellow fans of the rooms.
